February…and it’s finally snowing!

Not sure how long the snow will stay, but we are at least getting some! Not that we have been minding the nice weather and afternoon sunshine.

Aspen turned 16 months last weekend, and it is amazing to see her learn new things every day. Today at lunchtime, she learned how to say ‘broccoli’ (although it sounds more like ‘Becky’). Some days she is very picky and won’t eat anything, and other days she wants to eat everything. Just when I think I have it figured out what she will eat, she changes her mind and won’t eat it anymore. Kids! But, she is doing very well without milk and eggs (no hives, and rarely a rash). She enjoys coconut milk/yogurt/ice cream, and I have found that I can substitute coconut milk or rice milk for milk in everything I make. Ground flax seed has made the best egg substitute for most things, so far.

Another Christmas in California

We were lucky to be the Christmas guests of my brother Jason and his girlfriend Leslie again this year. Jer and I rode down with Dad and Mom in a rented minivan, and Jill and her girls flew in from Houston. Great roads and the roomy van made the 14+ hour trip tolerable with a 1 year old. She was a pretty good sport, but slept for markedly less time than during last year’s trip!

We enjoyed the warm weather, awesome kids, a fabulous dinner thanks to Leslie and a few helpers, meeting Leslie’s family, a trip to the zoo, a bit of shopping (girls and kids), some target practice (guys), Christmas Eve at Uncle Dougs, visits with Grandma Barb, great food, playing in the rocks, watching Curious George (at least 5 times)…

Thanksgiving recap

We had Jer’s family here for Thanksgiving, and it was a WONDERFUL time! Aspen enjoyed being thoroughly loved on by her Grandma Cindy, her uncles, and her auntie. The weather held out for safe travels both ways, and we even got outside for awhile for some leaf raking, hot tub filling, rock climbing and downtown shopping!

Well, since it has been forever since I have posted, I thought I had better start somewhere! These were taken a few days ago, when I decided it was time to see what Aspen would do with some paint. As you can see, her preference was to rub it all over herself. Some of it made it to paper, but most did not. Later, I thought I should have just stuck a piece of paper on her belly and transferred the paint!

On to November! Aspen has grown and changed so much this month.

*She got a 5th tooth while we were in Houston

*Her hair is growing wild and crazy

*She climbs on and off of everything

*She has taken some small steps, but still prefers to hold on to anything!

*Aspen loves to read books and play with toys, as long as Mommy is pretty close by

*She loves it when Daddy comes home from work. When she hears loud noises during the day, she looks toward the door and says, “Da, Da!”

October-Trip to Houston

Aspen and I got to visit Auntie Jill, Uncle Ayo, and cousins Zoe and Jada for 2.5 weeks in October. We had a wonderful time, and Aspen loved playing, ‘sharing,’ and spending time with her cousins. We went to convention, went shopping, played at the Pumpkin Patch, went Trick-or-Treating, ate great food (Uncle Ayo even made us some pounded yam and fried plantains, which Aspen and I both loved), painted walls, ate popsicles…

It was Aspen’s first time on the plane, and she did SO well. We loved our time in TX, but were happy to get back home to Jer.

October-Happy 1st Birthday Aspen!

October is a time with a lot of birthdays for our family! Aspen turned 1 on the 4th, Mom celebrated on the 13th, Leslie’s was the 16th, and Jer’s was the 18th!

Aspen enjoyed her special day, which was celebrated at Grandpa John and Grandma Roxanne’s because we were still very much in the process of moving. She loved the cake, the presents, and all of the attention! She may have wondered why we were so interested in taking pictures of her eating, though!

And September, and October, and November…!!!

Well, I will stick with one month per post! We have been busy. We bought a house in Pocatello toward the end of September, so that has kept us pretty occupied. Well, that and this very busy little girl of ours!

Craters of the Moon

This morning we decided to take a little trip to a local historic landmark, Craters of the Moon. It is about a 2 hour drive from Blackfoot, in what many people would consider desolate country. Once you arrive, you sort of feel like you could be on the set of one of the Lord of the Rings movies, where they are trekking through the lava fields (at least I think they were. I may not have watched the entire movie). Anyway, it was pretty beautiful, and they have some great trails to explore, and a nice visitor’s center. We didn’t explore the caves this time, as we had Aspen with us, but it would be cool to do that someday. I also hear they have x-country skiing in the winter, so that might be something we try once it starts snowing again!

Trip to Montana

Mom, Aspen and I traveled to Montana over the Labor Day weekend to see my Grandma Barb and Aunt Bonnie and Aunt Linda. Aspen and I also traveled a little further to see my Dad’s sisters and their families for an afternoon. It was the first time Aspen had met many of them, and she was initiated quickly into the full and noisy house! We also enjoyed a bit of shopping in Great Falls, a few little walks, and a pleasant drive/pleasant baby for most of the trip!
